How birds recognize their mom

Many animals (e.g. birds) would recognize the first live animal they see as their mother at birth. This reaction is irreversible and exclusive: if the reaction has formed they will not follow anyone else. It’s called “imprinting effect.”

What about if the first live animal birds see is a caterpillar?
